This book examines the history and interpretation of the Baptist distinctive of conscience and its influence on the wider Church and world. It also considers a period when Baptists failed to fight for conscience: American Prohibition. The similarities between American Prohibition and the COVID years are then discussed, followed by a defence of conscience against medical mandates.
Baptists have a long history of fighting for conscience, so much so that “liberty of conscience” is integral to Baptist identity. That is, the necessity to worship and obey God, as the conscience understands in light of Scripture.
